We can’t wait to see you at the beach! This year’s conference is going to be amazing and we’re looking forward to seeing each and every one of you.

When traveling from Microtel by Wyndham in Gulf Shores, expect to hit lots of traffic on the way to Orange Beach. Your map will probably tell you that it takes 20 minutes, so it will actually take you about 50-120 minutes to reach the Art Center and Recreation Center.

I recommend you take Highway 59 north (turn right) then take a right headed east on County Rd. 4. Turn right on the Baldwin Beach Express and go through the toll bridge next to The Wharf. Turn left headed east on Canal Rd. The library (board member meeting on Fri.), Art Center (Friday evening), Recreation Center (Sat. & Sun.), and Hudson Marina (Sunday) are all located on Canal Rd.

2018 CONFERENCE SPONSORS

We are grateful to the following groups, organizations, businesses, and journals who helped sponsor this conference.

AWC was organized in 1923 and has been in continuing existence since. Through the years, AWC has moved its conferences around the state to provide writers everywhere better access to its resources. Here's what 2017 attendees had to say about the AWC Conference.

"The AWC community has helped broaden my sense on connection to other Alabama poets and writers. AWC members have not only helped me to refine my craft as a poet, but encouraged me to have faith in myself. The possibilities found through creativity are endless." (Poet Carey Link)

"It was my first time to attend, and it was a great experience. I enjoyed getting to meet other writers who understand my passion! I also enjoyed workshops that got me thinking outside of typical genre boundaries. I'm already looking forward to next year."  (Novelist Emma Fox)

"Larry Brook's masterclass was mind-blowing, exceptional, first-class." (Writer KT Stanley)

"I learned a great deal from this conference, not least from presentations in genres other than my own. So many ideas and techniques cross-pollinate across writing styles! In addition, I was able to connect and re-connect with other writers in a very nourishing way. Too, I came away from the conference with a couple of new poems as well as ideas for a new sequence, and a new appreciation of social media. All in all, this was one of the best AWC conferences I've ever attended." (Poet Susan Luther)

"The fiction sessions by Larry Brooks lit up my brain with flashes and sparks of how to utilize concept, premise, structure, characterization in my poetry book project. It happens that I am at the very point of understanding the lack of some of those points in my manuscript. I am very excited about getting back to work and making my manuscript of poems coalesce into a novel in poems. I find that there is fabulous cross-genre pollination at AWC!" (Poet Susan Martinello)
