Your inciting incident should be strong enough to stand alone. Judging Criteria:

1 - Is the main character well defined and introduced?

2 – How well does the inciting incident draw the reader into the main character’s dilemma?

3 – Does distracting content deflect the reader from the inciting incident?

4 – The usual application of English grammar and punctuation.

5 – How real/plausible does the inciting incident seem to be?

6 – Does the editor want to read the whole chapter? The book?
